Fundraising for Breast Cancer Now

Wear it Pink Day and Bake Sale - Friday 17th October

Here at The Hinckley School we have a long history of supporting local charities and those selected by our Student Charity Ambassadors. Over the years we have been overwhelmed by the support of our staff, students and families to raise much-needed awareness and funds for charities which hold particular significance to our community. Following on from the previous successes of fundraising events, we would like to support Breast Cancer Now and their ‘Wear it Pink’ campaign this October. This particular charity was selected as we are aware that a number of our community have been directly impacted by this diagnosis, and as such we felt our students would benefit from learning more about this condition and more importantly, break down any stigma or fear that they might have.

Throughout the week commencing Monday 13th October, each student at The Hinckley School will partake in a Breast Cancer Awareness Session. The session is designed by educational professionals in collaboration with CoppaFeel (the Breast Cancer Awareness Charity). The Founder of CoppaFeel was actually diagnosed with breast cancer at an early age and made it her mission to educate people about the condition, with the main focus on empowering conversation so that people feel more confident to contact the relevant professionals should they have any concerns.  When breast cancer is diagnosed early, treatments are more effective and survival rates are much higher. Please click here to read a parental communication which outlines some details about the educational session and resources for support if required prior to the sessions.

Alongside this educational session, on Friday 17th October, we will be holding some fundraising events to raise money to donate to Breast Cancer Now, a charity who complete vital work with the main goal of everyone diagnosed with breast cancer living, and living well by 2050. Their focus remains on life-saving research and supporting individuals and their families once they have been diagnosed. For more information about the charity, please visit their website: About the charity, Breast Cancer Now | Breast Cancer Now

On Friday 17th October, we invite all staff and students to wear a pink item to show their support to the charity and those diagnosed with breast cancer. Students must continue to wear their full school uniform, but are encouraged to accessorize with a pink item such as a hat, hair band, bow, scarf, socks or pocket topper (please try to compete with Mr Arnolds efforts which we know will be ‘on point’). A suggested donation for this is £1 and can be made via parent pay. We will also be holding bake sales in the main hall and The Bridge and welcome the contribution of baked goods to be sold at this event by our student charity ambassadors. Of course we all love a sweet treat and any baked donation will be enjoyed, but if you are able to adapt your favourite recipes to produce a pink version, this would match then theme of the day. Any baked donations can be left with your child’s year team during registration. If your child would like to purchase a sweet treat at lunchtime, they can bring in cash to do so (prices 50p-£1.00 per item)

Furthermore, there will be some ‘Big Pink Quizes’ and games that are free of charge to get involved in (including a ‘Guess the Weight of the cake’ with the potential to win the whole dessert). Details will be provided by form tutors in the week leading up to the events.

We thank you in advance for any monetary and/ or baked donations that will help the charity to continue their vital work.
